Getting the Best from your Readings
This section will show you how to get the best (and by that we mean accurate) possible reading from your cards.
Getting your question right
How and what you ask the cards is probably the most important thing you can learn aside from the meanings. It’s a tricky area.
Questions that require a Yes or No answer generally don’t work very well with Tarot at all. The most common mistake we have all made is that questions that goes something along the lines of - Does he like me? Of course, deep down we all want to know how someone feels about us but sadly Tarot readings do not have a long shelf life and your reading is based on what is happening NOW.

So what if you have asked the question "Does he like me" when you have just had a big fight? It is not going to be very positive but in a week will probably have blown over and be forgotten. What you won't forget is the negative cards you got at that moment in time saying that your partner was harbouring some pretty nasty thoughts, for some reason it's the negative answers that stay in the mind despite all the positive readings you will get later.
So, a much better question for this type of situation is: 'What is going to happen with my relationship with my partner?' and use a spread with various positions such as what your partners wants from the relationship, a position for what each of you can do to improve your relationship etc. Tarot works well with advice cards, so if you are having a tough time, Tarot is much better at giving you help, guidance and advice to get to a good place again, rather than telling you if someone likes you or not.
If you don’t like the answer you get, don’t be tempted to reshuffle or keep asking the question over and over. All you will get are readings that get more and more muddled and confusing. You should just ask your question once, get your answer and then not ask again, at least until the situation has changed in some way. If you don’t understand it, write it down and maybe come back to it some time later. The advice will still be there for you.
Being in the right mindset
Being in the right mindset is very important when reading Tarot. If you are reading for yourself or others but your mind is full of problems, worry or even that you are just not concentrating, it is going to come out in the spread, and you won't be able to make head nor tail of it. If you are reading for your best friend about work issues but your mind is on the row you had with your partner last night, which situation do you think is going to show up loud and clear? After all, these are YOUR cards and will become attuned to you. Clear your mind before you begin, have a bath, relax, mediate. Just make sure you are focused and tuned in.
Keep it simple!
On many forums and other resources, you see many weird and wonderful ways to read the cards now, instead of just using the cards you have drawn. In addition to the cards in the actual spread, people now read the card from the bottom of the deck, they add the numbers on the cards together to make a quintessential "quint" card, the list goes on. Our advice to you would be to keep it simple! If the card from the bottom of the deck was meant to be in your reading, it would have been in the cards you pulled. Same with the quint card. It is simply not necessary, the message you were meant to get is in your spread, anything else is clouding the issue. As you get more experienced, you'll find your own quirky ways of reading that work for you!
